Police in Virginia, USA, have taken into custody Naresh Bhatt, the spouse of the missing Nepali nurse.
Local media sites broadcasted footage of police handcuffing Naresh and escorting him into a police car on Thursday afternoon. Police have detained Mamta Kafle’s husband on suspicion of concealing her body, according to the Virginia-based web portal Inside Nova. They suspect that someone may have murdered the 28-year-old nurse.
In the past, Naresh had informed the local press that he and his wife had never had any arguments. He had also asked her to come back if she was still alive and addressed the problem over the phone. He cited the need to care for his one-year-old child as his excuse for missing the protests demanding Mamta’s search.
The missing nurse had a tense relationship with her husband
Sources claim that Bhatt, who was from Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, wed Mamta in 2020. According to recent reports, their relationship was tense, and Mamta sought guidance from several people on her split.
Mamta has not been approachable since July 31 (16th Shrawan), when she was last spotted at Manassas Park. Naresh didn’t report her missing at first. Instead, he asked the police for help only when friends and family voiced their concerns. When the police finally visited him, he reported his wife missing.
Mamta’s husband last saw her on July 31. The Manassas Park Police Department reports that Mamta’s friends last spoke to her on July 28 (Shrawan 13th). The Manassas Park Police chief made the following statement at a recent press conference: Naresh is a suspect because he did not help with the investigation. The cops then conducted a raid on his residence.
According to a lawyer quoted by Inside Nova, Naresh was taken into custody following the discovery of more evidence. It is still unknown where Mamta is.
Three days after his wife vanished, Naresh reportedly told the authorities about her disappearance, according to ABC News. Mamta had not been in communication with her friends. She had not been in touch with her family. Her place of employment had not heard from her for several days.
Friends had assembled at Manassas Park to raise notice of Mamta’s abduction. According to former colleague Sunita Basnet Thapa, they had done so voluntarily. “We convened to ensure public awareness of her disappearance and to garner media interest,” she stated.
