According to Ukrainian officials, Russia launched a missile and drone attack against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure overnight into Monday. The drone attack also occurred during this time. The incident resulted in the deaths of at least four people. Multiple cities experienced a power outage.
The Air Force of Ukraine reported finding scores of missiles and drones in the nation. The Russian military targeted nearly every part of the country with these missiles. The attackers targeted the capital city of Kyiv and the frontline eastern districts of Kharkiv and Dnipro. The inclusion also encompassed the southern port city of Odesa.
Denys Shmyhal, the prime minister of Ukraine, posted on Telegram on Monday, saying, “Russian terrorists have once again targeted energy infrastructure.” He declared that Russia directed a combination of drones, cruise missiles, and hypersonic Kinzhal missiles towards at least 15 different locations.
Shmyhal stated that Ukrenergo, the national energy company of Ukraine, had to implement emergency power outages to uphold system stability. Serhii Kovalenko, CEO of the Yasno energy firm, reports that power disruptions have occurred in multiple locations, including Dnipro and Kyiv.
First foreign attack of Russia since World War II
Following Kyiv’s entry into the Kursk border region, this marked the first foreign attack of Russia since World War II. Ukraine had been preparing for a significant Russian onslaught for weeks. The US Embassy in Kyiv issued a warning about the heightened danger of Russian drone and missile attacks. This caution came ahead of Saturday, Ukraine’s Independence Day.
The attack occurred overnight, following a request by Ukraine’s foreign ministry for Belarus. The ministry requested Belarus to remove a substantial increase in Belarusian personnel and equipment from their mutual border. According to Kyiv, among the soldiers at the border were ex-Wagner mercenaries. They pleaded with Minsk: “Do not make tragic mistakes for your country under Moscow’s pressure.”
The electrical infrastructure of Ukraine has been under attack from Russia.
Russia has been attacking Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure for the past 2.5 years of the conflict. By doing so, Russia aims to drive Ukraine’s people into darkness. Authorities in Ukraine have reported deaths in the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Volyn, and Zhytomyr. The regional military chief of Poltava reported that the industrial site was hit, resulting in at least five injuries.

The house was not new, and the shrapnel from the windows made it unsafe to stay inside without a cellar or other hiding place.
Explosions and an air-raid alert awakened Anna, who resides on the right bank of Kyiv.
“The air defense system in the area shot down most of the missiles, but I could still hear explosions and the system in action from there” she stated. Once again, she reported that her friends from other parts of the city had their water and electricity services disconnected.
