According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, Ukraine has launched missiles into the Bryansk area of Russia. The use of US-made ATACMS missiles marks a significant escalation on the 1000th day of the conflict.

Only two days have passed since the Biden administration authorized Kyiv to employ American munitions with a longer range against targets inside Russia.

Kyiv did not immediately respond to the story. This is the first time Ukraine has used American longer-range weaponry to hit targets deep within Russia. The fact that Ukraine has employed these weapons demonstrates how quickly Kyiv has seized its recently acquired authority.

At 3:25 a.m. local time on Tuesday, Ukraine fired six ballistic missiles at a location in Bryansk, Russia.

Ukraine launched six ballistic missiles at a Bryansk site Tuesday at 3:25 a.m. local time (7:25 p.m. ET), according to the ministry. The strike allegedly involved employing ATACMS missiles manufactured in the United States.

Five of the missiles were shot down by Russian air defenses, while one was damaged. The damaged missile’s fragments landed on a military facility’s property, starting a fire that has since been put out. There were no damage or casualties.

US President Joe Biden lifted the months-long ban on Ukraine using longer-range American missiles on Sunday. This decision is intended to support Ukraine’s self-defense without significantly intensifying the conflict.

They made the choice during a pivotal point in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Russia is advancing on the eastern Ukrainian frontlines. At the same time, Russia is bombarding Ukrainian cities with missile and drone attacks. To take down Ukraine’s electrical grid, Russia is using this strategy. Russia is also weaponizing Ukraine’s very cold winter for the third year in a row.

In the meantime, authorities have sent North Korean soldiers to the Kursk area of Russia. Thousands of Ukrainian forces bravely counterattacked there in the summer.

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller described North Korea’s entry into the conflict as a major escalation. He made this statement during a news briefing on Monday. He added that Russia’s involvement brought an Asian military into a conflict inside Europe.

Ukraine could use US missiles to hit Russian military targets.

President Joe Biden has authorized the employment of American-supplied Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) weaponry for strikes within Russia. Previously, officials limited their use to Ukraine. In Russia, the United States had previously permitted the restricted employment of High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) weaponry.

Control information as of 3 p.m. ET on November 17, 2024. ATACMS data targets as of August 26, 2024. Remarks: “Assessed” denotes that the Institute for the Study of War has gotten trustworthy, independently verified information proving Russian dominance or advancements in those fields. “Claimed” territories are those where sources claim that control, incursions, or counteroffensives are taking place, but ISW is unable to verify or disprove them.

For months, officials have debated whether to permit the Army Tactical Missile Systems or ATACMS to be used inside Russia. The prudence of permitting the new capability has caused disagreement among U.S. authorities. Some feared that the fight would get worse, while others worried about the diminishing supplies of weapons.

Moscow has argued that using far-reaching Western weapons would be a significant escalation. Despite Kyiv’s repeated deployment of Ukrainian-made drones, Ukrainian forces have struck targets deeper into Russia than Bryansk.

In reaction to the reported missile strike early on Tuesday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin updated the country’s nuclear strategy.

Two days after Biden’s approval, President Vladimir Putin revised Russia’s nuclear policy in response to the claimed missile attack early Tuesday morning.

According to the revised doctrine, Moscow will view the non-nuclear state’s aggression against Russia as a joint issue. If a nuclear-armed nation also participates, Moscow will consider it as a strike.

On July 26, 2023, in Queensland, Australia, an ATACMS missile is placed into the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).

During the more than two-and-a-half-year-long conflict, Russia has frequently responded with nuclear threats. Perceived escalation by Ukraine and its allies has been the trigger.

Putin ordered a tactical nuclear weapons rehearsal in response to what he described as Western threats. After French President Emmanuel Macron stated earlier this year that he would not rule out sending European troops to Ukraine, Putin took this action.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, had maintained for months that a crucial component of his “Victory Plan” for winning the conflict was “long-range capabilities for our army.”

Zelensky stated on Sunday night in response to rumors that Biden had given his approval, “Words do not carry out strikes.”These things aren’t publicized. Missiles will do the talking.
