These are the top six most noteworthy opening ceremonies from the Olympics.

Athens (1896)

**For the inaugural Olympic Games of the modern period, athletes from fourteen different countries gathered in Greece.**

Athens hosted the first Olympics of the modern era in 1896. The opening ceremony was less extravagant than today’s standards. It was missing many common components in the Olympic opening ceremonies.

Since the Parade of Nations began in 1908 at the London Games, there was none this time. Additionally, since there was no Olympic flame, there was no cauldron to light. The organizer brought the cauldron to the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam. An energy company employee lit it instead of an athlete.

Still, it was a magnificent occasion. Crown Prince Constantine gave a speech to the 60,000 fans in Panathenaic Stadium. More than 300 athletes had assembled there. A choir of over 1,000 people sang the Olympic Hymn after its preparation. The King then officially opened the games.

Tokyo opening ceremonies(1964)

Three seconds before reaching the cauldron, he lit the flame. In Japan, people consider the number three to be lucky.

“Hiroshima Baby” is his nickname. He was born on the day the first atomic bomb hit Japan.

Los Angeles opening ceremonies(1984)

The American film business is based in Los Angeles. Hollywood is well-known for its skill in presenting an impressive show. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the 23rd Olympiad’s opening ceremony was a lavish event.

Music was the main theme of the celebration. John Williams composed the Olympic Fanfare and Theme. He is well-known for composing music for popular films such as Star Wars and Jaws. Barcelona opening ceremonies(1992)

Freeman went on to become the first Australian Aboriginal person to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics later in the games.

Sochi (Winter, 2014)

The Sochi Winter Olympics are considered the most costly in Olympic history. They cost more than £30 billion. By comparison, the London Olympics of 2012 cost £8.7 billion.

The Russian Interior Ministry Choir performed We Are The Champions by Queen and Get Lucky by Daft Punk. The musical selections featured a lot of works by well-known Russian artists like Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky. A Swan Lake performance was one of the pieces. The dancers were dressed in luminous strands, giving them the appearance of floating jellyfish.

Aside from that, the show’s finale included 22 tonnes of fireworks. They lit up the night sky, representing the structure of St. Basil’s Cathedral with enormous inflatable domes.
