The shooting’s timeline

On September 4, law enforcement officers show up for a press conference outside Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

Lyela Sayarath, a student, reported that the accused gunman exited the classroom. This incident occurred during their Algebra 1 lesson, around 9:45 a.m. Near the end of the lesson, he came back and banged to get back in. Lyela added that as soon as the other student saw the pistol, she decided not to answer the door. According to her, the gunman entered the adjacent classroom and started shooting.
Around 10:20 a.m., the sheriff’s office got the initial reports of the gunshot.
Soon after those calls, law enforcement joined two school resource officers assigned to Apalachee High.
The resource officer contacted the gunman. He surrendered himself and authorities took him into custody immediately.Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith told reporters about the incident.
After the shooting, authorities placed all district high schools on lockdown. As a precaution, authorities dispatched police to all of the locations.
Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that the ATF and FBI had later arrived on the scene and were collaborating with local and state officials.

Law enforcement sources informed CNN that they did not receive any reports of additional incidents or scenes.
