Cristiano Ronaldo was subjected to 'Lionel Messi' shouts once more.

Opposition supporters once again taunted Cristiano Ronaldo while chanting the name of his bitter rival Lionel Messi.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr felt frustrated after drawing 1-1 against Al Taawoun in their Saudi Pro League match on Friday in Buraidah. The former Manchester City center-back came to Al Nassr’s rescue with a second-half equalizer. The result now sees Ronaldo’s side drop to fourth position in the league table. Similarly, Al Taawoun remains in the eighth spot.

The home team took the lead when Saad Fahad Al Nasser put the ball past the opponent custodian to make it 1-0 at the interval. Musa Barrow had a chance to make it 2-0 after halftime, but his shot went straight to the goalie. In an attempt to equalize, Al Nassr promptly upped the ante. Angelo Gabriel spotted Laporte in the area and then headed in the equalizer in the 64th minute.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s endearing reaction to shouts of “Lionel Messi”

As is customary, opposition supporters taunted Ronaldo while chanting the name of his bitter rival Lionel Messi. During the first half, the supporters yelled ‘Messi, Messi’ to irritate Ronaldo. The Portugal international has historically responded to such shouts with annoyance.

However, he responded differently this time, giving a thumbs-up and then a straightforward smile.

Al Nassr’s title challenge is slowly waning away. Furthermore, they are way behind league leaders Al Hilal, who have registered 40 points in 15 matches. Al Nassr has 29 in 15 fixtures and three points ahead of fifth-placed Al Ahli.

For over ten years, the rivalry between Ronaldo and Messi has dominated football. While playing for rival teams Barcelona and Real Madrid, the two often faced off against one another for nine seasons during their prime years. They are the only two football players who have scored more than 800 goals for their clubs and country. According to IFFHS, they are the only two who have scored more than 800 goals. Similar rivalries have existed in other sports. Examples include Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier in boxing, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna in Formula One, and Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in tennis.
