Maha Kumbh 2025
The Kumbh Mela is a festival celebrated four times over 12 years. It alternates between four holy locations in India: Prayagraj at the meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati; Haridwar (Uttarakhand) on the banks of the Ganga; Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) along the Shipra; and Nashik (Maharashtra) on the Godavari.
Every event signifies the holiest period in Hinduism and corresponds with particular astrological configurations of the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter.
Throughout the month-long festival, thousands of pilgrims dip in the river. People call these holy bathing practices Amrit Snans or Shahi Snans. They believe they cleanse spirits and atone for transgressions.

This year, it is anticipated that the largest crowds will be attracted by Makar Sankranti (First Shahi Snan) on January 14, Mauni Amavasya (Second Shahi Snan) on January 29, Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan) on February 3, Maghi Purnima on February 12, and Mahashivratri (Final Snan) on February 26.
